Well it’s about time if you ask me. Minty fresh breath is nice. But boring. Enter Breath Palette toothpaste, Japan’s answer to clean, fresh and flavorful breath. Only recently available in the U.S., Breath Palette is a naturally derived line of flavored toothpastes and mouthwashes. From fruity to exotic, flavors tempt the palette with tastes like lavender, rose, cola, pumpkin pudding and bitter chocolate. Besides just spicing up your routine, the toothpastes offer a dose of healthiness. Made of all-natural herbal extracts, the formulas are sugar-free, alcohol-free, low effervesce, less abrasive than standard toothpaste and made without synthetic surface-active agents. I tried the monkey banana flavor because well, that just sounds the most fun, doesn’t it? I figure anything that says “Caution: Not a food, do not eat” on the packaging has got to be good. The vanilla-colored paste had a definite banana twang and aroma to it and you could pick up hints of other natural flavors like honeysuckle and ginseng. The flavor slowly dissipates and finishes with light menthol aftertaste. My teeth definitely felt clean afterward and not a bit gritty or unpleasant. But it wasn’t the super clean feeling that you get with regular toothpaste. Kind of the same lowered intensity of all-natural soaps and shampoos. They don’t lather up as much without the chemicals so you don’t get that squeaky clean aftereffect. It’s the trade-off of going all-natural. Overall, I enjoyed the flavor and it was fun to brush with something different. Definitely not boring! Individual toothpastes run about $5 each.
