So Saturday was my first big society gala. I got the dress (a $6,000 Badgley Mischka gown marked down 90% off at Nordstrom Rack). Got my brows plucked, zits zapped and my skin airbrushed tanned (twice) to an island glow. Got that extra dash of blond highlights and my hair teased and curled. All that plus the nails, the bag, jewelry and the shoes. No way I could play in the inner circle of Valley society. Not on this spa girl’s budget. But darned if getting ready for the event wasn’t a blast in an anxious, sure-hope-I-don’t-trip or smile-for-camera-with-lipstick-on-my-teeth kinda way. I poured myself a chardonnay and sauntered into my boudoir determined to enjoy the journey of getting glammed up for the evening. I started by rifling through my cosmetics drawer and digging out all the good stuff. My glittery Too Faced Cosmetics eyeshadows that any mature woman like myself should use only sparingly. Lipsticks in rich colors that I dared not use in the stark glow of Arizona daylight. Face firming serums, sparkling lip glosses and shimmery powders that I kept for special occasions (and Halloween). Oh what fun for a girly girl. And just before getting dressed, I pulled out one more secret weapon that I was saving for an occasion such as this: Payot Paris Nutricia — a nourishing, firming and luxuriously rich body cream from their Le Corps line. This luxe, shea-based hydrating balm leaves your skin dewy and dancing with a scent that I can only describe as expensive. The blush-colored cream absorbs to a satiny afterglow that comes from the micro-particles of mother-of-pearl. Ah, pure luxury. Once I had my dress on, I rubbed a bit more cream on my ams and dabbed a bit of Benefit’s Body So Fine balm on my shoulders and decollete for the final finish. Dip into a bit of a Payot yourself and find a retailer near you at www.payot.com. You can check out photos from the event on our Facebook fan page.
