With the arrival of 2014 comes a slew of can’t-miss social affairs, especially here in Phoenix, Arizona where nary a snowflake is in sight. Whether you’re hitting the greens for the Waste Management Open, walking the red carpet for a Grammy viewing party or checking out the hot wheels at Barrett Jackson, you can’t forget the number one party essential … a good tan.
The rest of the country may be covered in snow, but with our endless sunny skies and 70-degree weather, there’s no hiding that pasty skin behind winter coats and heavy boots. Enter: Norvell One Hour Rapid ONE Sunless Mist. This self-tanning spray is the perfect solution for the busy spa girl with a social calendar bursting at the seams.
Formulated with an exclusive blend of natural ingredients and an instant cosmetic bronzer blend, Norvell One Hour Rapid ONE Sunless Mist claims to give you a naturally looking, long-lasting salon result. The salon-quality formula is paraben-free and 100% vegan and contains natural enzymes to help hydrate skin. As an airbrush spray tan aficionado, I was eager to test it out.
I have always been hesitant when it comes to at-home tanning solutions. No matter how carefully I think I am applying the solution, I am either left with a streaky mess or turn out looking like an Oompa Loompa from Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. So, as I prepped my skin to try this latest and greatest in at-home tanning, I was expecting the worst and hoping for the best.
To begin, I thoroughly dried my freshly exfoliated skin, grabbed the aerosol spray can and jumped back in the shower (airborne spray tan is much easier to clean up after in the shower!). Per the directions, I held the product 10 inches from my skin and applied in a sweeping motion. To my elation, the bronzing agent in the spray easily identified where I had already applied the product and quickly ebbed any fear of a streaky outcome.
Once I was bronzed to my liking (the whole spraying process took less than 5 minutes), I took a tip from professional applications I had previously received and blended areas where I had a slightly heavier hand and lightly buffed around ankles, knees and other dry skin areas. Note: for facial application, the company suggests lightly coat a slightly dampened makeup sponge and blend onto face and into hair line, rather than spraying directly.
After getting dressed in loose-fitting threads, I let the product set. For a light bronze, the company says to wait one hour and for a darker outcome wait up to three. With a “go big or go home” mentality I opted for three hours. When the time came, I jumped back in the shower and rinsed the solution off with warm water, no soap, per the instructions. Now came my moment of truth. I climbed out of the shower and examined my work. I was shocked! Not only was I not orange, but I was now flaunting a pretty perfect golden tan. The results were noticeable yet natural and not a streak in sight! If I didn’t know better, I would have never thought this came from a can now sitting on my bathroom shelf. Needless to say, Norvell has now earned a permanent place in my pre-party primping.
