People often ask me how I manage to try out all the wonderful skincare products that I’m privy to as a beauty writer without my skin freaking out. Trust me, my skin has its tantrums and it’s a rare day when I don’t have a blemish or two (or four). But like most gals, I have a few secret weapons.
One is a a good foundation — I alternate between Hourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint and IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream Illumination Color Correcting Cream SPF 50+ depending on the coverage I need. For lighter days, I mix a pump of IT Cosmetics CC Cream with my moisturizer for a sheer look that diminishes redness. But for TV appearances and nighttime events, I opt for the Hourglass foundation because it doesn’t oil up and feel heavy. I’m not a fan of the applicator brush but the coverage is tops.
My second secret splurge is a fabulous concealer and of course, I have two of those that I love. I depend on Bobbi Brown’s Instant Full Cover Concealer for daily camouflage of under-eye darkness. But when I need extra coverage for breakouts or redness, I pull out the big guns — Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer. This stuff is amazing and works double-duty as an under-eye concealer and spot foundation.
Underneath it all is a few key skincare products that I’ve depended on for years now to battle my hormonal breakout of monthly monster zits — Image Skincare’s Clear Cell line. I use the Salicylic Gel Cleanser once daily, usually in the morning, while using a gentler cleanser at night to remove makeup. I dab the Medicated Acne Lotion directly on blemishes as a spot treatment and when all heck breaks loose, I use the Medicated Acne Masque in zit-prone areas. A warning, this line is serious and has a fair amount of active ingredients that can over-zap sensitive skin. I would check in with an Image-trained aesthetician before you plunge in face first (let me know if you’re in the Valley area and I can recommend a few). So there you have it.
My secrets revealed … or at least the ones I’m willing to share! Wishing you a glowing, zit-free new year and remember to wear your sunscreen!
