Yesterday morning I had a full-fledged dizzy spell. A major one. My fingers were flying across the keyboard as usual and out of nowhere, my eyes and brain lost connection, my vision went fuzzy and I felt on the cusp of losing consciousness. I panicked and willed myself up out of my chair, pacing back and forth around my office, lifting my arms up over my head and taking deep breaths.
Nothing like a minor panic attack to start your Tuesday off with a bang.
Once I realized I wasn’t going to die, my first thought was what the heck did I eat? Oh. Nothing. Right. In fact, just between you and me (I feel I can trust you), I don’t eat in the mornings. I drink. I down one cup of coffee after another until usually, I’ve single handedly polished off an entire pot. Terrible, isn’t it? But there’s something about the fully caffeinated, nutrition-depleted brain that keeps my fingers flying and my mind creatively alert until well past noon.
My second thought was that I need to get something in my stomach, stat. But the thought of eating made me queasy. And there it was. A box of Kaeng Raeng All Natural Detox shakes.
Kaeng Raeng is a collection of caffeine-free, gluten-free, vegan, all-natural shakes designed for a healthy detox cleanse. I had been saving the shakes until I was ready to commit to three days of liquid and limited food. But I figured, no time like the present.
Kaeng Raeng comes in three flavors: Juu Juu “into the blue” (blueberry banana), Glai Roong “daybreak” (mango, peach, pineapple) and Reunn “joyful” (strawberry, raspberry, pineapple). Each is formulated to help you lose weight, improve skin tone, eliminate toxins, bolster your immune system and improve digestive health—all without depriving your body of nutrition. Apparently, celebs such as Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Silverstone and Lauren Conrad are all fans.
Created by certified personal trainer Lindsay Reinsmith, Kaeng Raeng means “be healthy, be strong” in Thai. Each Kaeng Raeng pouch is a full meal replacement, about 200 calories and contains more than a full serving of fruit and fiber, 15 grams of lean non-GMO protein, probiotics, essential amino acids and vitamins.
The program is simple: drink one pouch three times per day along with raw fruits and vegetables. You add one pouch to 24-32 ounces of liquid. They suggest for best results, just add water. But you can also use juice, non-dairy milk, frozen fruit or ice for a thicker, sweeter smoothie.
For the past two mornings, I’ve been drinking a shake and feeling much better. I mix it up with a handful of ice cubes so that it’s frothy and cold. I don’t feel bloated or overly full but I also feel more energized.
The moral of my story? Eat your breakfast and if you don’t, drink it. And when you’re ready for a detox, get a box (of Kaeng Raeng).
The 3-Day Beginner Kaeng Raeng Detox Program pack contains nine pouches (three of each flavor) and is available at kaengraeng.com for $69.99. Flip through the product brochure here.
