Should I be stranded on a deserted island and should I have to choose one item to take with me, it would be a fully fueled and piloted jet to fly me the heck off said island. Or I suppose a volleyball would be a good second – I hear they make excellent companions when stuck by yourself on an uninhabited archipelago.
But, were I asked to choose one beauty item that would sustain me throughout a summer stranded in the middle of a desert (say, ummm … Phoenix, Arizona), I would have to go with the Blush-n-Brighten powder from Laura Geller’s baked collection.
And here’s why. It’s baked under the Italian sun (well, not literally but I’ll explain). It’s void of parabens and mineral oils. It’s a gorgeous dome of swirling pink, gold and bronze hues in a combination so pretty, you want to prop it up on your vanity. And the real kicker, it’s even more wildly pretty when swept across your skin.
Laura Geller has risen from a top industry makeup artist to a QVC celebrity. Possibly it’s her gracious and likeable on-camera personality that makes her products so appealing. But her innovative baked powder process is more likely the thing that has made her famous among beautyphiles.
At her factory in Italy, the baked powders actually start out as a multi-colored infused liquid, carefully hand-mixed so each pigment retains its integrity. The mixture is then poured in terra cotta pans and baked for 24 hours. The result? A beautiful, silky powder that dances with hints of shimmer and beguiling color patterns.
The Blush-N-Brighten blush comes in color combos that enhance various skin tones. My choice is Apricot Berry – a copper hue with just enough hints of berries and cream to double as a natural-looking flush on cheeks or an all-over bronzer depending on how much you apply.
Wilson the volleyball or Geller the powder? You decide. But my bets are on the blush. Get Laura Geller Blush-N-Brighten ($35 with brush) at Laura Geller (laurageller.com) or qvc.com.
