A lipstick that lasts all day? Really? Always on the forefront of giving women what they want from their makeup, Estee Lauder has introduced a new line of Double Wear Stay-in-Place Lipsticks and Lip Pencils that boldly claim to last up to 12 hours. The Double Wear lipsticks have a top secret polymeric technology and long-wearing flexible film formers that keep fading and reapplication to a minimum while protecting lips from pruning. The double-ended Double Wear lip pencils have a brush on one end and a precision pencil on the other. The pencil formula contains hyaluronic acid to help with moisture retention and spheres of a natural plant moisturizer that protect and soothe lips.
But the big question: Do they work? My assessment is that they work pretty darn well especially compared to other lipsticks that make the same claim. The liner is moist and glides on smoothly for a natural look that doesn’t bleed, feather or clump. The lipstick comes slanted and flat so I used the lip brush to work it into my lips. The rich color went on much creamier than I expected. I’m a gloss girl though and after a few minutes, my lips felt dry and in need of a dose of glam. But first, I took a big gulp of coffee. Very little of the lipstick came off but the liner did leave a telltale ring on the cup. I wore the Double Wear pencil in Pink and the Double Wear lipstick in Stay Pink on a long day that started at the Channel 3 studios for a morning beauty segment and then a day-long event. By that afternoon, the color had definitely faded but my lips still had color. And I had given in and globed on the gloss several times throughout the day, which may have weakened its longevity.
Overall, while other long-wear lipsticks may live up to their claims, the quality of the new Double Wear collection is where it shines. I like that the lip pencil glided on smoothly and that at the end of the day, my lips weren’t a pruned-up dry mess and still had a touch of color. The Double Wear lipsticks are $22 and come in 12 shades and the pencils are $19 and available in 14 shades. More at esteelauder.com.
