“Detox” — It’s a term that didn’t even enter the American vernacular until the 1970s when celebrity-endorsed substance abuse clinics came into fashion. Now it’s a buzzword in a host of industries — from beauty products and spa treatments, to teas and diets, to lifestyle choices. And I’m all for it … in moderation, of course. In the beauty biz, detoxifying products help eliminate the toxic effects of contaminants that wreck our skin. And even if the medical community says topical detoxing is bunk, I say that if these products improve your complexion and make you feel good, that’s all that matters. Take the Boscia Clarifying Detox Mask for example. It’s a thick, cooling botanical blend of kaolin clay to absorb impurities, green tea to combat free radical damage, and lavender and peppermint to soothe and purify skin. Plus, the tight, super clean feeling your skin has afterward is … well, addictive. And that’s a good thing. Use it once or twice a week or whenever your skin feels like it needs a dose of rehab. Available at Sephora and Nordstrom (click here for other retail locations). Photo: Preservative-free Boscia Clarifying Detox Mask, $22.
