By the time I graduated high school, I thought I’d successfully dodged the whole acne thing. Sadly, I came to find that 50 percent of women (me!) develop adult acne. This can be brought on by such wonderful things as hormones, stress and pore-clogging cosmetics. As such, I’ve tried a lot of acne spot treatments. Here are a few crowd favorites!
EradiKate Acne Treatment by Kate Somerville, $26
Apply a dab of EradiKate Acne Treatment to the affected area as soon as a blemish appears and its fast-acting formula will calm breakouts on-the-spot. This exclusive formula contains the highest level of sulfur allowed in order to calm acne flare-ups and keep skin free of further bacteria buildup. Not surprisingly, celebs like Jessica Alba and Debra Messing go gaga for Kate Somerville’s line of skincare products.
Dermalogica Age Bright Spot Facer, $45
This is the acne spot treatment that’s currently in my beauty bag. I like it because it’s not only effective at clearing up trouble shots, but it also has a natural-looking tiny that acts as a light concealer. I dab on a bit of the cream during my morning routine and, by lunchtime, see a visible difference. The Dermalogica Concealing Spot treatment is made with sulfur and zinc oxide, so it’s a nice alternative if you’re not a fan of products made from benzoyl peroxide.
Origins Super Spot Remover, $20
Salicylic acid helps speed up the acne healing process while anti-spot technology gets rid of post-pimple darkening and redness. Plus, the Super Spot Remover from Origins also is made with super exfoliators that eliminate excess oils and pore-clogging debris. This helps prevent future breakouts! The product is made with skin-calming caffeine and red algae.
Clinique Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel, $30
Clinique’s Acne Solutions Gel is a good option if you have dry combination or oily skin. The product contains salicylic acid to control oil while helping to clear recurring pimples. The medicated lotion is light to the touch and targets persistent acne.
Peach Slices Acne Spot Dots, $4.49
Not only are these affordable, Peach Slices Acne Dots are nifty and effective. Just peel off a patch and place it directly on your blemish for an overnight hydrocolloid treatment that reduces inflammation along with the size of the blemish. Patches come in three sizes and are suitable for all skin types.
