Fall in Arizona means finally breaking free of triple-digit temperatures, but it also means a new array of beauty trends. From big hair (my personal favorite) to fierce eye makeup, we proudly unveil our favorite fall beauty trends.
For the Birds
No angry birds here! This fall, it’s all about flighty bird’s nest hairstyles. From bouffants to buns, this messy up-do accents cheekbones while creating a fun, whimsical look. Experiment and make the style uniquely you. Start off with mousse, generous servings of backcombing and hair spray. From there, the sky is the limit, literally.
My three favorite fall hair techniques are: using a bun roll to wrap hair into a mess top knot, putting it up a high pony and securing teased sections with bobby bins or coiling hair into a French twist. Here’s a great video on how to create a Bird’s Nest Top Knot (thanks Andrea!).
Winged Liner
From bird’s nests to wings, we’re sensing a pattern here! Get dramatic wide eyes with winged eyeliner — the wider and brighter, the better! Try a variety of hues for a fun, fresh take on the cat-eye inspired look. Or make a statement with sharp black lines like singer KeSha. Sephora, in true trendsetter fashion, has a great video on creating the Winged Liner look. Or, check out makeup dynamo Lauren Luke’s how-to video on her take on the Autumn goddess look.
Red Hot
Whether fire, scarlet, ruby or cherry, red lips are “it” this fall. While I am typically a die-hard pink girl, there is something to be said for red lips and fair skin. It’s oh-so-dramatic, don’t you think? Dramatize simple, understated makeup with a subtle red kiss or go glam with a glossy fire-engine pout. Check out this sneak peek of the new Better Off Red fall beauty collection from Napoleon Perdis. More on how to wear red lips.
Special FX
The newest nail polish to hit the runways introduces a hint of magic to your next manicure. Magnetic Polish by Nails Inc. uses a special formula to create a textured nail design inspired by the streets of London. After the first coat is dry, apply a generous second coat to one nail and use the magnetic cap to activate and unveil the hidden design.
Want to see it in action? Check out this Magnetic Polish video from Sephora. Magnetic Polish comes in two colors, Trafalgar square (chrome) and House of Parliament (purple). Magnetic Nails is $16 at sephora.com.
